Module 2 Pre Flop Strategy

Before The Flop

During this module we are going to look at the area where most poker players make their biggest mistakes and look to improve your pre flop strategy.

The decisions we take before the flop are very important, and without good decision making before the flop, you could find yourself in all sorts of trouble after the flop.

We will spend some time here looking at Starting Hand requirements and some fundamental poker concepts such as position.

This module will form the backbone to your strategy, so read it carefully and practice practice practice!

2.1 Your New Style

There are many different styles of poker play, and if you watch the top professional’s on T.V then you will see various different styles, ranging from a very tight style where players take the minimum of risks, to a very loose style where players take regular risks.

There’s nothing to say either style is better than the other, but to be a successful loose player you need to take the risks at the right time, and to do that you need lots of experience. Also a loose player’s bankroll will swing up and down like a yo yo, one night you could loose $1000’s and another night you could win $1000’s.

The style of play you are going to learn in this course is  TIGHT – AGGRESSIVE

What this means is that we are going to limit the hands that we play to the hands that give us the best chance of winning, when we get those hands we are going to play very aggressively.

2.2 Poker = A Situation Game

As much as we can guide you and give you rules to follow, it’s more important to understand the concepts behind what you are learning.

The reason for this is that Poker is very much a situation game, you need to make decisions on the table and sometimes those decisions can only be made based on the situation you are in at that table.

During this course we are going to build a foundation for you to make those decisions, but as you get more experienced you’ll come across less and less new situations which you haven’t faced before.
