Thursday, June 7, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

On Wednesday, 6th June 2007, the nine remaining players from Event #6 - $1,500 Limit Holdem returned for the final table. They had survived an Amazon Room full of 910 poker players who had taken part in this event
All the players remaining were fighting for the WSOP bracelet and a first prize of $280, 715.
Here are the nine finalists and their earnings, in chips:
- Seat 1 — Michael Banks with 134,000 chips
- Seat 2 — Varouzhan Gumroyan with 148,000 chips
- Seat 3 — James Gorham with 632,000 chips
- Seat 4 — Gary Styczynski with 817,000 chips
- Seat 5 — Hansu Chu with 389,000 chips
- Seat 6 — Pete O’Donnell with 55,000 chips
- Seat 7 — Soheil Shamseddin with 298,000 chips
- Seat 8 — Dariush Imani with 109,000 chips
- Seat 9 — James Holland with 163,000 chips
This event was very different to the events that had taken place so far in the 2007 World Series of Poker as it was the first of 17 events which will be broadcast “almost live” over the internet. So online fans had the chance to view the final table with an hours delay on the broadcast.
The first poker player that was eliminated was Dariush Imani who collected $16,148. Then also in the first hour of the final table Peter O’Donnell took a gamble with his pocket sixes only to run into Varouzhan Gumroyan’s pocket tens and he left the table in 8th place winning $22, 359.
Michael Banks must feel it just wasn’t to be as he suffered the bad beat story of this final table. He got all of his money into the middle with the best hand with his A-Q dominating the K-Q of his opponent Gary Styczynski. The flop of A-Q-J gave Banks two pair, but a 10 on the river gave Styczynski a straight and sent Banks home in 7th place with $30, 433.
James Holland was the next to commit himself to a pot with pocket kings, but he hadn’t reckoned Varouzhan Gumroyan having him already beat with trip queens. Holland finished in 6th place and collected $40,991.
Gary Styczynski then eliminated two players in quick succession. First was James Gorman who moved all in on a board of 2-2-2-J with just A-8 and was called by Stycynski who held J-4 and had hit a full house sending Gorman out in 5th place with $53,412. Next was Soheil Shamseddin when Styczynski hit a straight and beat the two pair of Shamsedding who left in 4th place collecting $75,771.
The blinds had now increased up to 20K/ 40K, and Hansu Chu made a stand with his A- 3 and was called by Varouzhan Gumroyan’s A- 10. Unfortunately there was no help on the flop when a ten dropped and he was eliminated the 3rd place taking home a nice prize of $114, 278.
Now we were down to heads up and the chip stacks were fairly even:
- Gary Styczynski - 1.375m
- Varouzhan Gumroyan - 1.325m
The decisive hand came when the board read
and with Gumroyan all in he showed
for a broadway straight and a spade flush draw. Styczynski called with
and won the event when the river card came
to give him his flush.
The final standings for Event #6 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Gary Styczynski earned $280,715
- Varouzhan Gumroyan earned $177,627
- Hansu Chu earned $114,278
- Soheil Shamseddin earned $75,771
- James Gorham earned $53,412
- James Holland earned $40,991
- Michael Banks earned $30,433
- Pete O’Donnell earned $22,359
- Dariush Imani earned $16,148
There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
