Tom Schneider put in another great performance and became the first player to win two bracelets at the 2007 World Series of Poker by defeating a large field of 668 players.

Schneider had already won Event #5 a mixed Omaha and Stud Hi/Lo tournament, and once again proved his speciality in the Stud variation. As with his previous win he started the final table with the chip lead.

The final table line up was as follows:

  • Seat 1: Hoyt Verner - 129,000
  • Seat 2: Scotty Nguyen - 203,000
  • Seat 3: Hieu “Tony” Ma - 60,000
  • Seat 4: Saundra Taylor - 202,000
  • Seat 5: Tom Schneider - 275,000
  • Seat 6: Tommy Hang - 110,000
  • Seat 7: Miguel de la Cruz - 253,000
  • Seat 8: Woody Deck - 110,000

Surprisingly for a seven card stud tournament and for any limit tournament the final table was over in just a few hours with action being very fast.

First to exit was Miguel de la Cruz when he got his money in the middle in the wrong situation and ended up being eliminated in 8th place for a prize of $11,063.

Tom Schneider tightened his grip on this final table when he sent Tommy Hang out next. Schneider made a straight to pick up a big pot and eliminate Hang in 7th place good for $14,711.

Next to go was Hieu Ma who had plenty of final table experience at the World Series of Poker, but he resilient short stack play finally came to an end when he ran into the full house of Scotty Nguyen and left in 6th place collecting $19,170.

Saundra Tayler was next to hit the rail when Hoyt Verner couldn’t be shaken off and he stayed in the pot all the way to sixth street where he completed his wheel draw to win both the low and high pots and eliminate Taylor in 5th place for a prize of $24,619.

At this point down to four players and Tom Schneider really started to extend his chip lead taking a number of large pots down chipping away at the other player’s stacks. Next to be eliminated was 1998 Main Event champion Scotty Nguyen when Hoyt Verner’s pair of aces held up to beat Scotty’s pair of fives to sent him out in 4th place good for $31,610.

De la Cruz had suffered the most at the hands of Schneider’s stack building, and he was the next to be eliminated when Schneider’s set of sevens was good against the missed straight draw of De la Cruz which eliminated him in 3rd place for $51,670.

Heads up play between Tom Schneider and Hoyt Verner lasted about an hour. On the decisive hand Verner held a pair of sevens but this was no good against the two pair of Schneider who picked up his second 2007 WSOP bracelet and the 1st place prize of $147,713.

The final standings for Event #46 of WSOP 2007 were:

  1. Tom Schneider — $147,713
  2. Hoyt Verner — $82,064
  3. Miguel de la Cruz — $51,670
  4. Scotty Nguyen — $31,610
  5. Saundra Taylor — $24,619
  6. Hieu “Tony” Ma — $19,170
  7. Tommy Hang — $14,711
  8. Woody Deck — $11,063

There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
