WSOP Event #37 - $2,000 Pot Limit Holdem

The events at this year’s WSOP keep coming thick and fast and the next event to final table was Event #37 the $2,000 Pot Limit Holdem.
The final table line up for this event was as follows:
- Seat 1: David Zerrin - 238,000
- Seat 2: Ray Coburn - 100,000
- Seat 3: Pete Lawson - 198,000
- Seat 4: Gioi Luong - 240,000
- Seat 5: Yuval Bronshtein - 516,000
- Seat 6: Bryan O’Connell - 179,000
- Seat 7: Robert Collison - 197,000
- Seat 8: Jason Newburger - 278,000
- Seat 9: Greg Hopkins - 454,000
Bryan O’Connell was one of the players struggling for chips going into the final table and he was first to be eliminated. O’Connell raised holding
and Greg Hopkins re-raised with pocket 10’s. O’Connell moved the remainder of his stack in and after no help was brought to him on the board of
he finished in 9th place taking home $16,353.
Another shortstack Ray Coburn was quick to follow O’Connell out the door when he moved in with pocket 4’s and was called by Gioi Luong holding A-K. With the board coming down
then Coburn was eliminated in 8th place and collected $22,894.
Just a few hands later and it was Luong who found himself on the losing side of the pot. Some heavy post flop betting occurred when the flop came down
and both player held two pair with Luong holding
and Bronshtein holding
. It was Bronshtein however who needed to thank the poker gods when the turn brought the
to give him a full house and eliminate Luong in 7th place for a prize of $31,070.
Bronshtein had been playing aggressively at the final table but he was caught out when he made a raise with
and was called down by Bob Collison holding
when he made a stand against Bronshtein. The flop of
missed both players as did the turn of
however Bronshtein hit on the river when
came and sent Collison out in 6th place collecting $41,427.
David Zerring was next to be eliminated after he made a pair of aces on the flop of A-J-10. Zerrin ended up all in and was disgusted to find Pete Lawson holding K-Q for the flopped straight. Zerrin finished in 5th place and took home $52,874.
Lawson by now had build up a big stack and overtaken the chip lead, but over the next section of play he took hits to his stack from all players and his big stack dwindled. The final nail in the coffin for Lawson was when he moved all in with K-8 and was called by Jason Newburger who was holding pocket 2’s. The deuces held up to eliminate Lawson in 4th place giving him a prize of $72,497.
The next big encounter saw Bronshtein holding
tangle with Hopkins who was holding
. After the flop of
Hopkins tried to buy the pot by moving all in with just an inside straight draw but was called by Bronshtein’s top pair. The turn of
was no help, but the river of
rescued Hopkins and crippled Bronshtein.
Shortly after Bronshtein moved all in with pocket 6’s and was called by Hopkins holding A-10 and pairing his ace on the flop Hopkins eliminated Bronshtein in 3rd place taking home $109,018
Going into heads up and Hopkins held a 2:1 chip lead over Jason Newburger and the two battled it out for some time before finally all the chips went in with Newburger holding
and Hopkins holding
. The board came down
missing Newburger and eliminating him in 2nd place. Hopkins took 1st place and the bracelet together with a prize of $269,274.
