Hoyt Corkins finally broke his curse at the World Series by winning a bracelet that he has been chasing for 15 years.
The $2,500 NLHE Six handed is always a fast paced exciting event and this one was no different.
The final table lined up as follows:
- Seat 1: Terrence Chan - 502,000
- Seat 2: Alan Sass - 1,217,000
- Seat 3: William Lin - 726,000
- Seat 4: James Pittman - 127,000
- Seat 5: Kelly Vander-Mheen - 307,000
- Seat 6: Hoyt Corkins - 1,300,000
Early on it was short stack James Pittman who made his move and was the first to be eliminated. His A-9 did not improve against the pocket 8’s of William Lin. Pittman left in 6th place with a prize of $63,118.
On the very next hand the two big stacks tangled and Alan Sass found himself on the wrong side of the battle when Corkins completed a full house on the river taking a huge pot off Sass and taking a big chip lead of over 2.1million.
Shortly after Corkins picked up pocket aces and eliminated the unfortunate Kelly Vande-Mheen who exited in 5th place for $96,431.
Sass was the next to be eliminated, completing a disappointing final table for him. He was well ahead with A-K when he got all his money in the middle and it was once again Corkins who busted another player when his A-10 connected with the 10 on the river to send Sass home in 4th place good for $132,471.
Then Terrence Chan took over the role of eliminator when his two pair beat William Lin to send him away in 3rd place taking with him $196,758.
Heads up went on for 20 or so hands before chip leader Corkins finally finished off Terrance Chan. Corkins held
and Chan held
and the board came
to seal Corkin’s victory and to award the prized bracelet that he has been chasing for so long. He also picked up the first prize of $515,065.
The final standings for Event #30 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Hoyt Corkins — $515,065
- Terrence Chan — $287,345
- William Lin — $196,758
- Alan Sass — $132,471
- Kelly Vande Mheen — $96,431
- James Pittman — $63,118
There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
