WSOP Event #27 - $1,500 No Limit Holdem

Wednesday, June 20, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

Event #27 was another $1,500 buyin NLHE tournament and yet again a big field. In fact the field was so large that they couldn’t fit in the massive WSOP Amazon room and its tent annex and they had to expand into the normal poker room at the Rio and even into other parts of the complex.
The huge field was narrowed down to a final table of nine and they lined up as follows:
- Seat 1: Tom Dobrilovic - 260,000
- Seat 2: Noah Freedman - 847,000
- Seat 3: Dave Stucke - 975,000
- Seat 4: Luis Sanchez - 116,000
- Seat 5: David Woo - 1,114,000
- Seat 6: Young Cho - 933,000
- Seat 7: Thai Ton - 224,000
- Seat 8: Seth Weinger - 1,715,000
- Seat 9: Michael Ium - 382,000
It didn’t take long for the action to start and on the very first hand Thai Ton was eliminated in 9th place when his suited A-6 didn’t connect with the board and he was sent home with a prize of $36,340.
Just two hands later we had another elimination as Louis Sanchez moved all in from the small blind and was called by David Woo in the big blind who went on to make trip aces to send Sanchez home in 8th place good for $47,400.
Tom Dobrilovic was the next to leave when his K-10 failed to improve against the flopped pair of aces of Young Cho. Dobrilovic finished up in 7th place and won $63,200.
A little while later Noah Freedman found himself all in with a flopped pair of tens and was called by Seth Weinger who also had a pair of tens but with a better kicker. Freedman left in 6th place and took home $83,739.
David Woo was the next player to run into trouble when holding pocket jacks he found Seth Weinger holding pocket aces which stood up to eliminate Woo in 5th place for a prize of $115,339.
Shortstack going into the final table Michael Ium had survived the final table well and moved well up the money ladder. His day finally ended when his pair of Jacks were beaten by Seth Weinger’s two pair and Ium took home a good payday of $164,319 for his 4th place finish.
Weinger had been on a rampage and had been involved in most of the eliminations at the final table, but he would be the next to leave when he got involved in a big pot with Dave Stucke. Unfortunately for Weinger his opponent had hit a flush and he left in 3rd place taking home $246,478 for his efforts.
Heads up play was pretty much over before it started lasting only four hands when Stucke finished off the very quiet Young Cho. Stucke held pocket sevens and Cho found no help for his J-3. Stucke took home the bracelet and 1st place prize of $603,069.
The final standings for Event #27 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Dave Stucke $603,069
- Young Cho $382,357
- Seth Weinger $246,478
- Michael Ium $164,319
- David Woo $115,339
- Noah Freedman $83,739
- Tom Dobrilovic $63,200
- Louis Sanchez $47,400
- Thai Ton $36,340
There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
