WSOP Event #25 - $2,000 No Limit Holdem

Event #25 was another popular NLHE event which attracted a large field of over 1,800 runners.
The final 9 players returned to the Bluff tent as the event was to be broadcast live (with 1 hours delay) via the internet.
None of the final table had won a WSOP bracelet before so the competition was bound to be fierce.
The final nine lined up as follows:
- Seat 1: Evan Schwartz – 792,000
- Seat 2: Justin Rollo – 772,000
- Seat 3: Darryl Ronconi – 662,000
- Seat 4: Adam Ross – 346,000
- Seat 5: Ben Ponzio – 415,000
- Seat 6: Danny Noam — 563,000
- Seat 7: David Hewitt – 600,000
- Seat 8: Ken Einiger – 1,039,000
- Seat 9: Travis Rice – 1,284,000
The first player to be eliminated from the final table was Darryl Ronconi, when early on his pocket Jacks didn’t hold up after Travis Rice paired his Queen on the flop. Ronconi finished in 9th place and took home $34,770.
Ken Einiger was the next to leave in 8th place. Einiger is more well known for his World Blackjack Championship title but had a good run in this event. Einiger held
against a flop of
and called an all in bet from Evan Schwartz who was holding
. The turn brought a
and the river flipped the hand around with a
giving Schwartz the winning hand (and the chip lead) and sending Einiger home in 8th place with $45,672.
Adam Ross was next to go in 7th place ($61,878) closely followed by Danny Noam in 6th place ($82,504) when they both tried to make their moves and failed to hit anything on the board.
David Hewitt then got involved and eliminated Travis Rice. Hewitt called an all in bet from Rice with Hewitt’s
in front of the
of Rice. The flop came down
with the turn
and river
knocking Rice out in 5th place with a prize of $111,970.
Earlier chip leader Evan Schwartz was the next to exit when he made a move from the small blind with
and was called in the big blind by Justin Rollo who was holding
. The board was no help
and Schwartz was eliminated in 4th place taking home $165,008.
Down to three players and the chip stacks were fairly even however Hewitt and Ponzio both took pots away from Justin Rollo to put pressure on his chip stack and Rollo was eventually eliminated when he made an all in move with
and was called by David Hewitt holding
. The board came down
and Hewitt’s king high won the hand and eliminated Justin Rollo in 3rd place with a consolation of the $244,566 prize he was taking home.
Down to heads up play and Ben Ponzio chipped away at the stack of David Hewitt and eventually built up a 5-1 lead over him. The decisive hand came when Ponzio raised to 250,000 with
and was reraised all in by David Hewitt holding just
on a steal attempt. It was called by Ponzio and when the board came down
Ponzio’s king high was good winning him his first bracelet and a 1st prize of $599,467.
