Monday, June 18, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

The final table of this event contained some of poker’s greatest and most well known players and attracted a lot of interest at the Rio on Saturday.
The final table lined up as follows:
- Seat 1: Russell ‘Dutch’ Boyd 170,000
- Seat 2: George Hardie 182,000
- Seat 3: Eli Elezra 303,000
- Seat 4: David Sklansky 171,000
- Seat 5: Scotty Nguyen 255,000
- Seat 6: John Harkness 141,000
- Seat 7: Thor Hansen 167,000
- Seat 8: Marshall Ragir 28,000
The eliminations started early and it was Marshall Ragir who went out in 8th place when his pair of deuces lost to George Hardie’s pair of eights and so Ragir left with $14,981.
That wasn’t enough to stop Hardie being the next man eliminated when he was involved in a five way hand and he called a 40,000 raise from Eli Elezra only to find he was losing to Elzra’s kings. Hardie left in 7th place with $20,844.
Quick on the heels of the last elimination Thor Hansen’s day ended when he moved all in against Sklansky and Nguyen on just a draw. He missed his draw and finished in 6th place taking home $27,357 for his efforts.
It was in fact poker legend David Sklansky who was to fall next and again involved in a three way hand with Elezra and Nguyen but his hand came up short and he left in 5th place with prize money of $35,835.
Elezra was again involved in the next elimination when his two pair busted John Harkness who left in 4th place and collected $47,224.
Down to three players and Eli Elezra attempted to keep up the dominating style he had been using throughout the final table, and he kept the pressure on Nguyen and Boyd. This paid off when Elezra eventually knocked Dutch Boyd out when his pair of kings stood up. Boyd, a former bracelet winner himself, left in 3rd place with $71,650.
Down to heads up and a very exciting one at that between Eli Elezra, a well known high stakes cash player and regular at the “Big Game” at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and former WSOP Main Event winner Scotty Nguyen.
Heads up was a hard fought battle and neither player played badly, but Elezra managed to pull away in the chip counts and the decisive hand came when Nguyen tried to make a stand and Elezra had picked up an Ace high straight. Elezra took down his first WSOP bracelet and a 1st prize of $198,984.
The final standings for Event #24 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Eli Elezra $198,984
- Scotty Nguyen $110,731
- Russell ‘Dutch’ Boyd $71,650
- John Harkness $47,224
- David Sklansky $35,835
- Thor Hansen $27,357

There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
