WSOP Event #23 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha

Sunday, June 17, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

This event was one of the shorter two day events (as opposed to the more normal three day events) and when we returned on day two the first task was to whittle the 23 remaining players into the final 9 players.
All eyes were on Johnny Chan who was one of these 23 remaining players to see if he could pick up his 11th bracelet to equal Phil Helmuth’s new record set earlier in this years WSOP. But it wasn’t to be for Chan in this one as he made an early exit on day 2 in 20th position.
The eventual final nine players lined up as follows:
- Scott Clements - 445,000
- Dau Ly - 295,000
- Mark Davis - 208,000
- Eric Lynch - 180,000
- Andrew Black - 152,000
- Anthony MacCanello - 120,000
- Will Durkee - 103,000
- Jason Newburger - 80,000
- K.U. Davis - 78,000
Straight away at the final table we had a double knockout when Scott Clements busted two players in the same hand.
The three players involved in the hand were:
Davis holding

MacCanello holding

Clements holding
After the flop came
there was plenty of action with all the players betting and raising until both Davis and MacCanello were all in. The turn card was
and the river
and Clements straight held up to eliminate Davis in 9th place ($11,794) and MacCanello in 8th place ($16,511). This also gave Clements a clear chip lead.
Just before the dinner break well known player Andy Black was eliminated in 7th place by Will Durkee and Black left with $22,408.
Returning from the break and Clements holding 845,000 in chips was in a massive chip lead with 2nd place Will Durkee only holding 218,000 and the others trailing that.
The next elimination came when Tommy Ly sent Mark Davis home in 6th place when he hit quad tens. Davis collected $29,877 for his 6th place finish.
Ly then also claimed the next head when his trip Jacks were good enough to eliminate the short stacked Jason Newburger in 5th place with a prize of $38,133.
In a truly crazy 20 minutes chip leader Clements then went on a rampage. First he eliminated Will Durkee in 4th place sending him home with $52,285. Then just a few hands later he also eliminated Tommy Vu in 3rd place leaving him with the consolation of $78,624. And then in the very next hand he finished the job off and eliminated Eric Lynch to clinch the bracelet and the 1st place prize of $194,206.
The final standings for Event #23 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Scott Clements — $194,206
- Eric Lynch — $119,508
- Dau ‘Tommy’ Vu — $78,624
