WSOP 2007

The final table of the $5,000 Limit Holdem Championship event really was not treated with the respect it deserved. With the final table area out of action due to ESPN filming an advert there, the two final tables that were going on at the same time had to make do with temporary areas in the Amazon room. This meant that essentially this final table was no different to a normal table, with the crowds just gathered around the table very close to the players.

The chip standings going into the final table were as follows:

  • William Thorsson - 585,000
  • Ray Dehkharghani - 471,000
  • Geoff Sanford - 333,000
  • Tom Koral - 325,000
  • Thor Hansen - 282,000
  • Don Todd - 207,000
  • David Gee - 162,000
  • Saro Getzoyan - 109,000
  • Gabriel Nassif - 97,000

The players got straight down to action and Gabriel Nassif soon exited in 9th place after he failed to hit a flush draw. He collected prize money of $21,742.

Geoff Sanford then flopped a set of 3’s and claimed his second elimination of the final table by sending Don Todd home in 8th placewith $30,198.

No time to waste and shortly after we had another elimination with Ray Dehkarghani, struggling after just having his pocket aces cracked on the previous hand made a move with K-9 only to be dominated by William Thorsson’s K-Q. Dehkharghani exited in 7th place with $41,069 in his pocket.

Tom Koral was the 6th place finisher after not really making an impact on the final table he left with $54,356.

David Gee had to deal with a tough beat after he picked up pocket kings only to run into the pocket aces of Saro Getzoyan. In fact he never recovered from losing the 800k pot and was eliminated on the following hand to leave in 5th place and with $68,850.

This trend continued as Thor Hansen took a severe blow to his chipstack when his pocket 7’s were beaten by a pair of Jacks from Sanford and then on the next hand was eliminated by a set of 7’s leaving in 4th place with $93,008.

It was Sanford who also eliminated William Thorsson in 3rd place when he hit a set of 4’s to beat the pocket 6’s of Thorsson. 3rd place finish was good for $136,493.

Down to heads up and the chip stacks looked as follows:

  • Saro Getzoyan – 1,580k
  • Geoff Sanford – 970k

The decisive hand was when Sanfords pair of eights was outdone by Getzoyan’s top pair of jacks and Saro Getzoyan won the championship gold bracelet and a 1st place prize of $333,379.

The final standings for Event #18 of WSOP 2007 were:

  1. Saro Getzoyan $333,379
  2. Geoff Sanford $200,511
  3. William Thorsson $136,493
  4. Thor Hansen $93,008
  5. David Gee $68,850
  6. Tom Koral $54,356
  7. Raymond Dehkharghani $41,069
  8. Don Todd $30,198
  9. Gabriel Nassif $21,742

There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
