WSOP Event #14 - Raymer and Greenstein in hunt for Bracelet

Monday, June 11, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

The second and final day of Event #14 - the $1,500 Seven Card Stud took place this Saturday. The event only started with 385 players and 135 players returned for day 2.
The action was slow however and for the first time at this years WSOP the tournament directors were discussing whether they would have to extend the event outside of it’s schedule and into a third day. In the end though the players and staff decided to finish it off and the event eventually finished in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The final table promised to be an interesting affair with 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer and seasoned pro Barry Greenstein involved.
The final table lineup was as follows:
- Seat 1: Michael Keiner with 318,500 chips
- Seat 2: Nesbitt Coburn with 163,500 chips
- Seat 3: Steve Sung with 167,500 chips
- Seat 4: Greg ‘Fossilman’ Raymer with 116,500 chips
- Seat 5: Dale Phillips with 137,000 chips
- Seat 6: Larry Eubanks with 21,500 chips
- Seat 7: John Robertson with 82,500 chips
- Seat 8: Barry Greenstein with 177,500 chips
Chip leader Keiner wasted no time getting down to business and eliminated Larry Eubanks with a full house versus Eubanks two pair. Eubanks went home with $11,053 and Keiner approached almost half a million in chips.
It was then Steve Sung’s turn to make his move up the leaderboard when he eliminated John Robertson and issued a severe hit to Greg Raymer’s chipstack in one monster pot after hitting his fifth diamond to make his flush and snatch the pot away from Raymer. Robertson left in 6th place with $15,097 and Raymer was left crippled.
Raymer never recovered from this hand and shortly after he was next to leave in 5th place and took home $19,680.
Keiner then came back into the picture and played his part by eliminating Dale Phillips in 4th place with a prize of $26,150 closely followed by Nesbitt Coburn eliminating perhaps Keiner’s biggest threat at the final table Barry Greenstein who left In 3rd place with $51,222.
It was now really late and it was quite clear that the long session was really taking its toll on the two players with both making obvious mistakes that they perhaps would not have done if they were fresher. But both players wanted to complete the event that night and turned down the offer to return on Sunday to finish the event in front of the ESPN cameras.
Keiner eventually finished the match off by defeating Coburn at 8am in the morning after a 17 hour session and claimed the WSOP bracelet and first prize of $146,987.
The final standings for Event #14 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Michael Keiner — $146,987
