WSOP Event #12 - $1,500 NLHE Six-Handed

Monday, June 11, 2007 | Adrian Milewski

The fast pace of the 2007 World Series of Poker continues as we reach Event #12 already. This time we turn to a different speciality of shorthanded poker with the Six-Handed $1,500 no limit Holdem event.
There were 1,427 players who joined the event but only six of them had the chance to take their place at the final table. The final table took place in the special Bluff magazine “tent”, which is a custom annex to the Amazon room at the Rio this year. The reason for this was to ensure that it was hidden from the general crowd’s view due to the fact that this was one of the events this year scheduled to be broadcast live over the internet (with an hours delay).
The final table of this event turned out to be a tough one with the usual aggression you would expect from shorthanded play.
The final table lined up as follows:
- Seat 1: David Zeitlin — 899,000 chips
- Seat 2: Matt Brady — 381,000 chips
- Seat 3: Brian Miller — 831,000 chips
- Seat 4: Steve Olex — 484,000 chips
- Seat 5: Jason Warner — 945,000 chips
- Seat 6: David Mitchell-Lolis — 736,000 chips
The differences between the players’ chip stacks was not that much going into the final table so it was all still to play for. Actually, we didn’t have to wait long for the first elimination.
Taking home $61,357 in his pocket, Brian Miller was the first who left the final table getting involved in a pot with one of the only players who had him covered, chip leader Jason Warner.
Not long from our first elimination, Matt Brady became the next Warner victim. He left the table in fifth place with total earnings of $92,523. After these two quick eliminations, Warner had extended his chip stack to a commanding lead.
The action continued for a while before the players started to consider making a deal for the remaining prize money. Eventually they agreed terms for the chop and continued to play for the title and the bracelet. The exact terms of the deal are not yet known.
After having agreed the deal it wasn’t long before short stack David Mitchell-Lolis left the table in 4th place.
Then it was Steve Olex’s turn when he picked the wrong time to move in with his K-10 but found himself up against the A-10 of David Zeitlin resigning him to 3rd place.
This moved Zeitlin into the chip leader position beginning heads up play with Warner, but that would soon change when both players found themselves all in with Zeitlin way in front with his pocket 7’s against the pocket 5’s of Warner. However a river 5 gave Warner the miracle he needed and propelled him into a significant chip lead.
Zeitlin already shortstacked then suffered another bad beat when he decided to slowplay his pocket aces only to let Warner again come from behind and hit trips.
Zeitlin never recovered from these two bad beat and the decisive hand came shortly after when he had no option other than to go all in with his critical short stack with Q-4 offsuit and was up against the
of Warner. The flop hit no one and then the turn
put Zeitlin in the lead, but it just wasn’t to be Zeitlin’s day and the river
gave the victory to Warner.
The final standings for Event #12 of WSOP 2007 were:
- Jason Warner — $481,697
- David Zeitlin — $269,778
- Steve Olex — $186,020
- David Mitchell-Lolis — $123,689
- Matt Brady — $92,523
- Brian Miller — $61,357
There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
