WSOP Event #11 - $5,000 Seven Card Stud
line

Phil Ivey

The second day of Event #11 was packed full of action and the pace of knockouts was brisk.

After 70 were eliminated on the first day it was Jacob Fernandez who went into day 2 as the chip leader out of the remaining 110 players.

Yet, it was not to be Fernandez’s lucky day. Even though he was to become the first player to reach 100,000 in chips during that day, he fell short and couldn’t make it into the top 24.

Lots of big names were involved in this event with Cyndy Violette, Daniel Negreanu, ‘Miami’ John Cernuto, Barry Greenstein, Howard Lederer, Humberto Brenes, John Juanda and John Hennigan all competing on Day 2.

Perhaps the biggest excitement was Johnny Chan who made it deep in this event and was on course to break more records with his 11th WSOP bracelet but he was eliminated in 18th position to keep him tied with Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson at ten bracelets each.

But the crowd were left with somebody to cheer as another fan favourite Phil Ivey moved his way through the field to take his position at the final table.

The eight player final table lined up as follows:

  1. Theo Jorgensen — 229,000
  2. Marco Traniello — 30,000
  3. Ted Lawson — 90,000
  4. Phil Ivey — 322,000
  5. Chris Reslock — 141,000
  6. David Oppenheim — 609,000
  7. Pat Pezzin — 234,000
  8. Oriane Teysseire — 145,000

Early exits from the final table were Marco Traniello in 8th place ($19,458), Oriance Teysseire in 7th place ($27,072) and Ted Lawson in 6th place ($35,532).

Theo Jorgensen was eliminated in fifth place when his two pair was beaten by the flush of Chris Reslock. He took home $46,530 for his efforts.

Next to go was Pat Pezzin who was eliminated by David Oppenheim but collected his third cash of the 2007 WSOP so far with a prize of $61,335.

With 3 players left the standings looked as follows:

  • Phil Ivey — 580,000
  • Chris Reslock — 485,000
  • David Oppenheim — 710,000

Chip leader Oppenheim however then went through a torrid time with Ivey and Reslock dominating the next 33 hands leaving Oppenheim in trouble. Eventually Oppenheim found himself all in against Reslock’s two pair and was eliminated in 3rd place taking home $93,060.

Reslock now had a clear chip lead and it wasn’t long before he completed his victory when his set of tens held up against Ivey’s two pair. Ivey finished in 2nd place with $143,820 leaving Reslock to collect the Bracelet and first prize of $258,453.

The final standings for Event #11 of WSOP 2007 were:

  1. Chris Reslock — $258,453
  2. Phil Ivey — $143,820
  3. David Oppenheim — $93,060
  4. Pat Pezzin — $61,335
  5. Theo Jorgensen — $46,530
  6. Ted Lawson — $35, 532
  7. Oriane Teyssiere — $27,072
  8. Marco Traniello — $19,458

There’s still time to qualify for the WSOP main event by winning one of the many satellites taking place on Pokerstars.
