Poker and Celebrations Rain at the PokerNews Cup

The first PokerNews Cup competition was held in Melbourne, Australia this year and more than 130 online poker players who qualified via special poker freeroll satellite tournaments held by Poker Professor and its partner sites gathered in the city.
It was the perfect chance for these online players to play along side some of the biggest names in the poker world and to take their shot at a first prize of $300,000.
The PokerNews Cup was also a great time of celebration for the online qualifiers who also enjoyed a variety of activities laid on for them at the event in Melbourne. The event saw players from around the world representing more than 15 countries.
The event lasted for a week in which many poker players had to pay nothing to enjoy poker and other activities thanks to winning entry via the Poker Professor freerolls.
The event began on Thursday with a welcome party organized at the Crown Casino. Groups of poker players chatted in their languages and all one could hear was poker. After players took part in the first tournament of the festival they were then taken for a day tour to the oldest wineries of Australia, which was a part of the winning package for the freeroll winners. After the winery tour players enjoyed a cruise along the Yarra River.
The main event of the PokerNews Cup had 428 poker players who played for a prize pool of $1.1M. Some of the players were competing for the first time in a big buy-in’ poker event. The eventual winner of the main event and a first prize of AU $300,000 was Dory Zayner.
As for the online freeroll qualifiers the standout result was Jordan Lamberg, who turned his $0 investment into $47,900.
The Poker Professor freerolls continue to offer an unbelievable schedule of tournaments with freerolls to win seats to the Aussie Millions and the South African Pokernews open now listed in the schedule for December.
Remember also that these tournaments have limited fields and so the chances of winning one of these packages worth up to $15,000 each is greatly increased. For example in the Pacific Poker tournament that took place a few days ago to win a $12,500 package to the Aussie Millions there were only 40 entrants to the freeroll which offered great value and odds to those taking part.
