Action from Sunday 3rd December

The action is complete from the weekend’s big internet tournaments. Let’s take a look at what happened at each of these tournaments.

Pokerstars Sunday Million

The PokerStars Sunday Million continues to grow in popularity with another massive turnout at this week’s event. A total of 6,687 players entered the PokerStars headline tournament with 975 places sharing a piece of the $1,3million in the prize pool of which the winner share was $187,237.

By the time the tournament reached the final table there were two players who were way out in front with Dgizzard and br1an2K5 both having almost double the chips of their rival players. The first exit didn’t take long when zio_slim’s pocket tens held up against freeradical2’s A-K. The second exit came when br1an2K5 pocket sixes once again held up against the K-J of Phwap. It wasn’t long until Axabaxa went out in 7th when his A-6 came up against the A-K of PhilEatsPoo.

PhilEatsPoo then claimed his second head from the final table when he eliminated one of the chip leaders going into the final table. Dgizzard’s A-8 was no match for the Q-Q of PhilEatsPoo. This victory brought PhilEatsPoo chipstack approaching $20million and the only player challenging the chipstack of leader br1an2K5. Unfortunately for PhilEatsPoo he was on a downward spiral from this point losing several large pots and eventually being knocked out in 5th when his J-9 was beaten by chip leader br1an2K5’s K-J.

With the blinds starting to get really high at $300k / $600k the short stack at the table was looking really desperate with Gurre’s chipstack looking very vulnerable at just $4million. But he started a fight back and survived multiple all-in confrontations including the biggest pot of the day where he won a $32million pot against Mr_BigCheese when Gurre’s K-Q hit two pair and then turned into a full house on the river beat Mr_BigCheese’s pocket Aces which turned into an Ace high straight. This hand crippled Mr_BigCheese and with barely any chips left Gurre finished him off in the next hand and sent him home in 4th place.

zio_slim was the player to exit in 3rd place when his pocket eights came up against br1an2K5’s pocket tens. We were then down to heads up between Gurre and br1an2K5 and the two players started to discuss a deal. They could not come to an agreement and so play continued.

Both players battled for a while and the chip lead changed a number of times but the final hand where Gurre’s pocket threes came up against br1an2K5’s 9-8. The flop came down 8-4-3 and Gurre slowplayed his set with both players checking. The turn card was a 9 and Gurre bet out $1.6million which br1an2K5 just called. The river card was another 3 giving Gurre quad threes. Gurre bet $4.8million and br1an2K5 re-raised to $9.6million. At this point Gurre made the move all-in at which point br1an2K5 typed in the chat window “Are you sure” before making the call only to discover that his two pair was in fact way behind Gurre’s quad threes. Gurre took 1st place and walked away with prize money of $187,236.

Full Tilt $200,000 Guaranteed

FullTilt Poker’s showcase weekly tournament attracted 2,187 players and a total of 360 places made the money. The winner would collect just over $80k out of a total prize pool of $437k.

The first player to exit from the final table was catchmy2outer when an attempted bluff failed and he was caught with his pants down by colenel decker. Then JWiggles declared war on the final table and went on a rampage knocking the next three players out. These three players were Studpokerman, Backstaber and shahro who finished in 8th, 7th and 6th respectively.

Feeling left out the other players tried to get back in the action and this resulted in the elimination in 5th place of e2202 whose K-8 couldn’t beat the pocket jacks of colenel decker. 4th place was claimed by jefflasvegas when his A-Q was again beaten by pocket jacks, this time belonging to TiltyZ who hit trips on the river.

TiltyZ against claim the head of the 3rd place finisher when he caught colenel decker attempting a huge re-raise bluff with 7-5 and TiltyZ called with his A-Q which held up to eliminate colenel decker in 3rd place. Tilty Z was now on a roll and trying to emulate JWiggles rush earlier.

TiltyZ quickly finished this match off and the deciding hand came when his pocket threes held up against JWiggles suited Q-T after a board of 6-6-8-9-4 giving TiltyZ a winning hand of two pairs and the tournament victory. TiltyZ walked away with a 1st prize of $80,481.

Bodog $100,000 Guaranteed

Bodog’s big weekly tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 attracted 954 players this week meaning Bodog had to honour the guarantee and contribute a small portion of the prize pool. 81 places finished in the cash.

Chip leaders going into the final table were LDizasta holding nearly $500k in chips and not too far away second placed badblood1. Rizen was the first player to be eliminated when he was knocked out by GnatButter and he was closely followed by Reggie Gomez when his Q-J ran into the pocket aces of BRK916. 7th place was taken by tjd29cu when he was taken out by chip leader LDizasta.

Next to exit was BRK916 when his A-J failed to win a race against GnatButter’s pocket eights and then LDizasta picked up back to back knockouts when he sent GnatButter out in 5th place and A_theKevlar_2 out in 4th place.

Phoummareth who had survived with his short stack all the way to 3rd place finally exited when his pocket fives lost against LDizasta’s K-Q when a queen came on the flop. This left LDizasta flying into heads up play against badblood1 and just as it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before LDizasta completed his victory, badblood1 pulled off an excellent comeback over a number of hands.

The final showdown came when badblood1 held A-J and LDizasta held J-9 with both players catching part of the 9-A-2 flop. The turn card 8 and river card 10 were no help to LDizasta and badblood1 claimed 1st place and a prize of $25,000.
