On Friday the gambling commission of the United Kingdom issued an advisory that said that the few gambling companies which are advertising tournaments they are running in which the prize is a seat in a overseas poker tournament are actually violating the present advertising rules that are set out in the Gambling Act of 2005.
The release explains it has come to the notice of the commissioner that there are a number of operators that offer seats to overseas poker tournament as prizes. For example there are a few online poker sites and also some of the casinos that operate in the United Kingdom which provide the winners of the some of their online tournaments a chance to play in big cash prize events that are hosted outside the United Kingdom.
The commission said that according to the views of the commissioner, offering such prizes results in advertising of non UK gambling as it is defined in the section 327 of the 2005 Gambling Act. According to the Foreign Gambling in section 331 it is stated that an individual commits an offence if the individual advertises foreign gambling other than a lottery.
Foreign gambling is defined as non isolated gambling that takes place in the non European Economic area. This law further states that those found guilty of violating these sections of the Gambling Act could face nearly 51 weeks in jail along with a fine for the offence. The commission said that all the gambling operators should take certain steps to ensure that all the advertising that they are responsible for should comply with the requirements of the 2005 Gambling Act.
