Final Table – Only Millionaires allowed!

Wednesday, August 9, 2006 | Adrian Milewski

There were 12 new Millionaires at the World Series of Poker Main Event yesterday. Pokers biggest ever tournament meant that the top 12 finishers all receive in excess of $1 million in prize money.
At the end of play on Tuesday the field had been narrowed from its initial entrants of 8,773 down to the final table of just 9 players.
However three players who just missed out on the limelight of the final table (Fred Goldberg, Leif Force, and John Magill) will be consoled by the fact that their prize money for finishing in positions 10th to 12th is $1,154,527 each!
William Thorsson was the unfortunate player to be knocked out on the “millionaire bubble” finishing in 13th place – but he still took away prize money of $907,128.
FullTilt poker will not have to pay out the promised $10 million bonus if one of their qualifiers won this years main event with the final remaining “FullTilter” Luke Chung busting out in 14th place taking home a prize of $907,128.
The tournament enjoys a rest day today as a result of being ahead of schedule, and the final nine players will meet again at the Rio’s famous Amazon room at noon on Thursday.
Each of the final nine remaining players is guaranteed at least $1,566,828 in prize money now, with the top 3 places paying $12 million, $6,102,499 and $4,123,310 respectively.
Allen Cunningham is the man to watch at the final table after he has been one of the most in form professionals this season and proving so by making it to the final table in a very strong chip position. Jamie Gold holds onto the chip lead like he has over the past few sessions, and also must be one of the favorites.
