Default Disillusioned Newbie

Hi All

First let me say a big thankyou for everyone who has put up their own posts, it has helped me in learning a lot. Also a big thankyou to the Professor for putting together this strategy guide.

Now comes my problem.

I am stuck and losing money.
I started playing poker a little while back when my brother in law bought over a chip set. I have been hooked ever since then.

I have started on the lessons and am still on lesson 1. I have deposited my money, and have used the guide day after day and all I keep on doing is losing my blinds or get called 'all in'. Thats even if I have AA, KK, QQ, basically any of the top 5 band hands, and they normally beat me.

I need more guidence or clarification.

Lets say I pick up KK and i'm on the dealer button, the guide says to re-raise a raise, thats fine but what if the raise is half my stack? do I still raise? at what point do i fold?

Its a big hump I need to get over to be able to progress with the lessons and i'm not afraid to keep asking questions.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default keep it up

Hi Newby,

You are facing the problem of the low-stakes. Everybody calls raises, raising you with with nothing and all-ins are very common. Don't worry and keep up raising with AA,KK or even QQ because in the long run you will win with the better odds. If it means half your stack or even an all-in you should be glad because most of the time you will get their money.

Is that what low stakes is always like?

Or is it just ladbrokes?

I've had my AA and KK cracked so many times is unbelievable.

Would you recommend any other poker sites to play on instead. Somewhere that has reasonable players that fit the norm!

at what site are you playing at? don't start at sites like fulltill or pokerstars. try untimatebet. keep playing low stakes. try guessing what other players have. also you need some luck.

good luck

I know I am replying to an outdated post, but for the sake of anyone who reads; people who can't win on $0.05/$0.10 should start at $0.01/$0.02.

I mean no offense to the Poker Professor but I do think his Course should start at $0.01/$0.02 and work up from there. I was getting my arse kicked at $0.05/$0.10 when I started the course so I went down to the bottom and learned some discipline and then played a little while at $0.02/$0.05 and now am trying the course from the beginning at $0.05/$0.10.

Of course the Professor assumes people have already been playing NL for a long time which I hadn't been. I had been playing FL and you don't get burnt so bad calling a suspected bluff in FL.

Also add try not to be so disillusioned if youre aces get cracked when you get all in preflop you will win many more of these encounters than you lose in the long run. if however you see a flop with your aces or kings and dont improve just remember its only a pair dont get to attached to them if you face significant resistance.
