Hi There,
I have been playing mostly online for a couple of years now and am generally a break-even player. I am currently working my way through the course (currently about half way through Module 3; my bankroll is at $42, working on getting it up to $57) I just have a couple of thoughts, and may have some more as I progress through... 1.) AKs: I am not sure this belongs as a Group A hand; sure it's suited and has al sorts of possibilities. And no, I have no problem raising with it pre-flop, and I *may* even call a raise from time to time with it, but I really just cannot see it being good enough to raise a re-raise. Have peoples' experiences with it really make it that good? I (like many others) always seems to get burned by it? Then again, maybe this course will teach me otherwise. I still plan to play it the way the course teaches, but that's just been my experience with it. 2.) Table Position: Should there perhaps be two position charts? One for pre-flop and one for post-flop? The only reason I mention this is that pre-flop, the course mentions that if the pot is unraised and your are in the blinds, then treat yourself as being in late postion. Fair enough. Post-flop, however, how are the blind positions treated? I would think "Early", but then that puts five "Early Positions" on the table, which seems a little much? Just some rambling thoughts. Thanks for reading :-) SilkBC |

1. (AKs) Don't forget that poker is a situational game. The the player raising rarely ever pushes like that, it would we wise just to call that raise. If the player is a maniac an constantly raises, depending on how many people are in the pot...if a lot...I'd just call it...if just me and this guy, I'll jack that pot up with him, sure.
2. (Position/charts) I've never seen a chart that shows what to do post flop. The reason is because hold em is a situational game and nobody decide for you wether or not your hand is a winning hand. However, if you're on the 3rd part you should have a pretty good idea of what you should be doing post flop. (Unless you haven't actually been reading the guide.) As far as position goes, you can't really dictate it by seat number anymore after the flop. What matters is where you are in the betting order. (First, second, last to act etc.) Obviously the benefits of being last are tremendous. One trick I like to use pre-flop to gain an edge with a drawing hand/moderate hand is to put a bet out and hope the people behind me fold...that would be the same as having late position. I wouldn't recommend using this tactic just yet as it is kind of advanced. Anyways, I think I've touched up a little on your questions...if you still have questions, pleas go ahead and continue picking my (our collective) brain. Good Luck. -Reip |
