Default My "Poker Job" experiement

Hi All,

I'm very new here but I wanted to share my "Poker Job" experiement.

I have been working in boring offices for a good few years now. About 18 months ago I started to play poker online. And since the first time I played I wanted to make Poker my day job.

Over the past 18 months I learned alot about Poker. So from books and some the hard way by losing cash online.
I have never really been into tournements, since day one I have been a cash player.

I rate myself as an avarage poker player. My biggest fault was that I was sometimes did not concentrate and that always let to me losing big time. I could play very well for hours and than suddenly, it is like the devil come out in me, play on hand very stupid and lose most of my stack.

I kept working on my mental poker strenght and worked out a very good strategy.

About 3 months ago I did something I always wanted to do. I took 2 months unpaid leave from work and wanted to concentrate fulltime on poker.
We are now 3 months later and I have quit my job and I am a full time poker player and here is how I do it.

I am a very tight player, every day I play poker for 14h for 5 days a week.
In case you wonder, my social life is on hold while I am living the dream. My girlfriend lives a couple of hours away from me and I only see her in the weekend, so this is perfect, lol

Everyday I start playing at 8am. I sit down at for tables £1/£2.
I play in session from 2 hours with after that a 15min break.
Like I said earlier I play very very tight and believe it or not but I am making an average of £10 an hour on each table, which I think is not bad.
I think I dont have to do the maths for you guys but I think you can figure out that I am doing pretty well.

I just wanted to share this with you guys as my strategy is based on what I found on this site.

If any one wants to find out more feel free to contact me, I am more than happy to give an inside to people who want to live their dream just like me.
And NO, I am not charging a penny or ask you to sign up with a poker room.

Default How to handle bullys?

I just started playing no limit after losing hundreds playing limit.

After reading the Strategy Guide here at Poker Professer I have been winning rahter than losing. I just moved from .04 tables to .20 tables but sometimes run into the ALL-IN players who seem to go over the top for a very large amount. Someone bets .80 and then this guy raises it to 16.80

How have you handled this and other common situations?

Basix, grats man first of all, I think it took a lot of courage to decide to play poker fulltime and happy to see it turned out well for you. I have to say I think I have the same problem with the playing too loose when I am not concentrating but trying to overcome that now.

Also would like to praise you on the way you play with 2hours of play followed by 15 min break, very smart thing to do since nothing worse than overdoing the poker play. And £10 an hour is a very well paid job in my opinion

Just a quick question, what was your starting bankroll and what is your bankroll now? If you dont mind answering :)

Hi Basix,

First of all congrats on living the dream - I really hope it continues to go well for you.

And thanks for sharing you're story here - a very interesting read and I'm sure we would all be interested if you kept us up to date with how you are doing, and offer you're advice to the rest of the community here.

I'm also glad you found a use for our strategy guide and that it played some part (however small) in you're success.

Of course you can ask. I started with a bankroll of £5,000. After 3 months my total bank roll without my initial bank role is currently £32,782. This is not all poker money but also Rake.

For people that are really interested I am willing to write a document on it. But I can already saying you this. I hardly play any hands and I get very very bored during my day.
I don't look at it like playing poker but doing a job!!! Very important
