Hi Mundybags,
Welcome to the forums and the site.
The best room to play at really depends on what you are looking for which varys so much from person to person. The good news is that there is plenty of choice out there nowadays so there is usually a room out there to satisfy whatever criteria you are looking for.
For example in the Cash Game Winning Poker Strategy Course then we have suggested which room to play at during the course based on the beta test of the course showing which room was giving the best results for playing the style the course teaches at those stake levels. We are always re-running the beta test and we do change the recommendations from time to time as the action drys up or changes (which of course it does) We are actually about to change the recommendation from Hollywood Poker in the course as the action seems to have changed recently and it is no longer quite as good as before at those stake levels.
Best thing to do to decide on a room is to decide what you are looking for, eg: cash games, SNGS, MTT tournaments then what stake levels you are going to be playing then research on that basis for the best value games. Then once you have the conclusion try the room out and see if you get on with the interface - its important to feel comfortable using the software and actually be able to enjoy playing!
If its freerolls your interested in then the Poker Professor Freerolls has a great schedule of special freerolls that we've arranged with the
poker rooms to give some great value to the poker professor community. The freerolls are drying up a little at the minute as we have just given away $200k+ in WSOP seats, but we are working on getting them replenished for the upcoming months.
