Default Am I just unlucky?

This is true (although I can't remember exactly what the stack sizes etc were)
I was playing a freeroll last week (this was before I improved my game by taking your course). I lasted less than 5 mins.

Most of the players were away from their keyboads, so there was only three of us actually at the table.

The first few hands were junk, so I folded them.

Stack sizes were roughly:
Me $800
Mr_Chutney $400
Pokerace3312 $1200
Blinds 20/40 (I think - whatever they start off as)

Then I got dealt KK.

So I raised 3xBB for $120

Mr_Chutney called.
Pokerace3312 folded.

The flop was KJ6 (all different suits)

Mr_Chutney went all in for $280
I called.

Turn: J
River: J

Result: Mr Chutney shows J3 and wins with 4 of a kind Jacks.

So I'm down to $400 within 2 minutes of starting the tourney.

Two hands later I got dealt AA (I swear this is true).

I raised 3xBB again for $120

Mr_Chutney folded.
Pokerace3312 (big blind) called.

Up flopped A95 (another rainbow)

Pokerace3312 bets $100
I go all in with my last $280

Pokerace3312 calls.

Turn: 8
River: 6

Result: Pokerace3312 shows A7 and wins with a straight 98765

So I was out.

There is a saying that it is better to be lucky than good.

This is a freeroll, so you expect bad play. Unfortunately that bad play can get rewarded as Luck takes a hand in the outcome. It was a freeroll, so you have lost nothing other than 5 mins of your time... it could have been 2 hours and then that happened!!!

I was playing in a $2 MTT game and the second hand i was dealt down TT. I raised 6x BB (i do this at the start of deep stack tournaments, as people will call with anything if it costs them 150 of a 10000 stack) i got one caller. flop comes 778. He checked, and i raised abut 75% of the pot. He goes all in. I put him on something like the 8, and he is trying to buy the pot. I called, and he showed AK. At this point i am 75% favourite to win the pot. Nothing for him on the turn, and he picks up the A on the river. As i say... very bad play rewarded. all my money went in when i had the best hand. All you can do, is to take a break, and start a new tourney... you had it easy, as you lost nothing!!!

Take that much!!! :D

First of all welcome to the forums Fenchurch.

In both those situations you were probably about 15-1 favourite or something silly like that to win the hands and he's hit runner runner to suck out on you.

There's nothing you can do in that situation - you are just desperately unlucky. It happens from time to time that you get such bad luck all at once.

But in the long run, if your opponents make such bad decisions like that then you will profit over the course of time.

One of my favourite sayings in poker:

Quote:
The sum of your poker profit = Your opponents mistakes less your own mistakes
