Implied odds as an excuse

Hi again,

I just won a hand but I'm actually pretty sure I misplayed it.
The reason is that very often on the 0.05/0.10 limit People get payed off a lot
on big hands.
But I'm actually afraid that I'm using Implied odds as an excuse to play draws.

I played A3s (out of position) and flopped the Nut-flushdraw, he bet and I had 1:2 odds. And i just called..... because of the implied odds.
On the turn I got 1:4 odds, called again. so I hit two-Pair on the river, and won. It felt nasty..

I thought I played it right, only thinking about the Implied odds, I'm starting to use it as an excuse, wich will kill my bankroll in a matter of time.
I was playing a LOT better before I knew about Implied odds


So my question is: What situations should you use Implied odds for ??

Yes Implied Odds can be very dangerous especially for inexperienced players.

Problem is you define a Fish as a player who chases for cards when they shouldn't and if Implied odds is misused then that is all you are a fish.

The problem with implied odds is that you don't know for sure what your opponent is going to do, and how much you are going to have to commit to the pot on the turn to see the river, and how much you can extract from your opponent if you hit etc etc.

So until people are more experienced at reading their opponents and get to know their opponents playing styles / betting patterns better then implied odds should be used very sparingly otherwise it will turn into an excuse.

Certainly at the lower stakes tables it is pretty hard to use implied odds and they are so unpredictable sometimes.

This is why we recommend in the course to only consider the expressed pot odds to start with and then as you move up the stakes and get more experienced we start to talk a little more about implied odds.

Really at this stage implied odds should only be used where you can confidently put your opponent on a big hand but you have a big draw to the nuts, in which case you can be confident that you will win big if you hit. Other than that stick to expressed pot odds for now.
