First of all it was a pretty loose call before the flop with A-3 clubs after you had raised.
He's missed the flop, and has taken a stab at the pot to try and bluff it. The mistake here that he has made is that once he has made this bet he is pretty much committed to the pot. At the most he has 7 outs (Four x 5's + Three x Aces) excluding the backdoor flush potential. You have re-raised all in meaning he only has to call another 1,200 into a pot of 4,200 - thats about 3.5 to 1 pot odds. With 7 outs after the flop, he's got about 28% chance of hitting which means he needs pot odds of about 2.5 to 1. So even though he knows he is beat at the flop stage he's probably made a reasonable decision here to call you. But you were very unlucky to lose the hand.

Yes you are right - my apoligies I read your post very quick.
He's still getting around the 3.5 to 1 pot odds though, so the logic is the same.

I think at the end of the day someone that plays A3 the way he did doesnt really care about pot odds and you want him calling anyway since he was the worst hand :)
Get your chips in ahead and you cant really do much more, dont mull over this beat for too long because you are going to receive many more. Even with this 1700 into 5700 is still about 3/1 i think not to sure could be closer to 3.5/1 I'd wait for profs reply :) or go into his pot odds part of his guide |

Personally i think you played it the best way, you managed to get all of his chips in when he was behind, what more can you ask for?!?!
If you had seen turn and river before pushing would you have pushed anyways... i think on turn i woulda, on river its harder but dont think it coulda lasted that long, If you see turn he is pushing to bluff if that was his plan all along or he's checking and you dont know whether he has setted or not. I think you played it right, but lady luck was having it :D |
