Default Strategies

There are many forms of strategy being used at tables today. A couple of forms have been touched on in other posts.

The limper, the check/raiser but the one that really really irritates me is the sitter out. This person starts of with really good cards and gets a tremendous chip lead and then they sit out so they won't be tempted to play and lose their chips.

This player is very annoying because a lot of times better players are eliminated while he keeps moving up towards the money. This has become a common practice lately and I just detest it. If you are going to play poker, play poker. This can only be done on line.

In a live tourney it is not tolerated, or a cash game you are sat out and it is for how many hands you are gone. You don't gain any advantage there because you still come back to a full table and the players could very easily have gotten ahead of you.

Some of the sites have taken steps towards this by not allowing sitouts for certain periods of time. Or if someone doesn't at least play one hand in the first level of play they are automatically lifted from the table.

However, you will run into it and it will begin to annoy you as well. When you see someone you know who is really working to get to the money in a tournament and this guy just breezes up there while your friend, who is "playing" poker gets put out.

Yes it is annoying - but there is nothing wrong with someone not interested in winning the event and just trying to move as high up in the money rankings as possible.

Plenty of people do that - in fact probably out of every final table you will have 2 or 3 people who are doing just that and folding every hand trying to sneak up the money.

I understand what you want to say. But let's face it - the limpres are going to become more and more just because this strategy is very profitable. Yes, it is really bad that a lot of quality gamblers leave the tournaments, but we can not do anything about it. It is just a game of skills and everybody chooses how exactly to play.

I think Party has hit the nail on the head. If you play the correct strategy, you are going to be the most profitable. Depending on how the table plays, depends on the strategy you use.

Also Remember, that the person who has 10x more of a stack than you will be very easily tempted to (and have the right amount of chips for Dan Harringtons 10% rule in tourney play) call with anything to try to elimate you. So thank your lucky stars that the chip leader at your table is not playing, as he would be the one who is most likely going to knock you out.

On top of that, it makes his cards very easy to read. He sits out for two circuits, then suddenly decides to play a hand... hmmm, what cards do you think he has? Most probably AA,KK,AK maybe QQ. So it is easy to drop you AT suited, becuase you know that you are most likely dominated.

Just becasue he is sitting out, does not mean that he is not part of the game, and yes you can sit out in live tourney play. Your cards are mucked if you are not at the table, so it does and can happen at live tables. If you pay your money, you are not doing anything wrong by sitting out and not playing hands.

Add to this that if you have position over the sitter out, you can steal his blinds every time, and if the levels are at a respectable amount (even 100/200) it can really help your stack. Embrace this player, becuase as long as they are sitting out, they are not knocking you out!!

Well, Im a New Player, Ive ben playin hard for 2 months now, and i mean hard, sometimes my hrs are split into two 5hr sessions or 3 smaller ones, however, I put in ten hrs a day. I started playin freerolls with anywhere from 3500-5000 ppl. It was fun (at first),then I noticed the time energy and effort spent doing it to get knocked out before the money or at the final table 8th 7th etc any number but 1. I wanted to improve my play. Im interested in turning pro i wanna say in about 1 yr. I havent seen anything like this in my life, If its about ivestment, speculation and potential return. This is it, with a strategy theres almost nothing better.

I found this site alomost 1 month ago. My game has improved 5 fold, but to the topic of sittin out, LET EM. Dont be concerned, if ur playin ur game their strategy shouldnt bother u ( at all ) just imagine that they are there and their folding until a premium hand. I think its agood strategy for a real large tourney. On tv they dont show the hrs that the pros spend folding they just bring u the action. Can u imagine seein foldin for 2hrs the ratings would drop.

So in conclusion, If the chip leader at ur table is sittin out he /she has done their job u on the other hand must play catch up. but when they enter they will be playin premium cards (be very careful ), playin shortstack is easier than deep stack (in my oppinion, but what do I know). Ignore em, play ur game no need to get mad at the sitter.

Who knows when ur deep u might have to go the bathroom for 5 mins whose mad at U then. They paid their buy in just as u did when they sit out take over the table till they comeback. Then gradually attack their chip stack 1 small pot after the other.

We all know ur strategy of playin tight aggressive is far superior to the strategy of sittin out and hopeing to make the $. gl gg thx is mostly my comments on the chat in response to nh. PLay harder and make it urs lol.

I really don't think that this should be a problem for anyone. I have had many times where a person is sitting out and took 4th when i was a very short stacked and more than likely would have been taken out if they were actually playing. I am confussed why this bothers you so much. Sorry to disagree but you seem to be complaining about free chips when the player is in the blinds.
