Question Muck?

I see that muck means "to fold or discard your hand and not show your cards to your opponents". Is there ever an instance when you would show your hand when you fold or discard? Isn't it typical to not show your cards?

Personally I never show my cards unless I have to - I make my opponents pay for information and don't give it away free.

As long as I know what I have shown and what my opponents haven't seen, then I can establish what their perception of me is and act accordingly to take advantage of it.

Some people show their mucks in order to proove they wern't stealing / bluffing and others show they are stealing / bluffing hoping to put someone on Tilt, but they only do it so they can act differently in the future, so if they show a bluff - then next time they make similar plays they will probably have a hand, and vice versa.

Interesting. Do you have to prove anything to the other players during a game? Seems somewhat counter to the whole game. I just can't see a reason for it unless you've gotten involved with some unsavory characters.
