I was checking out a gaming site and noticed that they had 5 card stud listed. I have never played it before and was told that it was rarely ever played. Is there anyone that still plays it? From what I can tell it doesn't look real hard other than you only get one draw.

This is the game I learned how to play poker with. This is the game my friends and I played the last time I played poker with friends. Because five-card stud is the first poker I played, I have a harder time following holdem.

Yes there are still a lot of people who play stud whether it be 5 card or 7 card. Mostly now it is 7 card stud. However, when you say there is only one draw I'm wondering if you have ever really seen a stud game. There is no draw in the game of stud. All that happens is the cards are dealt either down or up and you bet on your hand as it happens.
I personally started playing poker by playing stud many years ago long before hold'em was "the" game. In fact if you went to a casino poker room the only games you would find were stud or 5 card draw poker.

I don't think I explained it well at all. I was thinking that you are given 5 cards initially and then prior to betting you option to discard some or all of your cards. Maybe I haven't seen it played the right way. Yet another reason to join a forum with players who have been playing for years. I always learn something new.

I think, at this rate, I am always going to be learning. The more I play the better I get but knowing all the strategies and rules is a whole other issue. Some people have been playing for years even decades. I don't think anyone learned it overnight.
