Default Anyone play Razz?

I want to learn to play Razz. Is there anyone who plays it often enough to give me a general rundown and some straegies?

What is Razz? I've never heard of it. Is it new?

What I found online is that it's a different name for seven-card stud.

ah, so it's straight lowest and just like in hi/lo the wheel doesn't count as a straight when it's low. Kewl. That explains a few things I'd seen...lol

Well it's a little more than like hi/lo. I have played and won hands where a Jack was the highest of my low hand. There is no counting on flushes or straights it is strictly the lowest hand period even if it is a flush. It's the numbers game. A25710 could be a winning hand.

You have to watch the other players in as far as if they have 1 or 2 pair showing on 5th or 6th street and they are high cards then you can be pretty sure that they don't have the low hand. When I say high cards I mean like QQ or JJ or even if they have three high cards showing JQK that means there are only 4 cards lower if they are going for the win which you already know they aren't going to do it if you have A3579.

Why do I always feel like I'm in a foreign country here? And no one answered my question about what Razz is. At least not in language a poker novice can understand. D'oh!

Well, since you are in a poker forum it is obviously a game of poker. Let me put it in the most simple terms I know how. The board/hand actually looks like you are playing seven card stud. You are dealt 2 cards down and one card up. The highest card "brings in" the blind. Then everyone decides if they want in or out (fold). Then the next up card and a round of betting and that goes on until 7th street (7th card) and that one is dealt down.

Now in this game, totally unlike normal poker, the LOWEST HAND WINS. That means that your full house, 2 pairs do not win the hand. The hand that wins has 5 low cards, as in Ace, 3,5,7,10 or even Ace,2,3,4,5 (which of course is the best hand even if it is a flush because flushes don't count.

I hope that clarifies it for you.

Dunno bout anyone else - but that's the best explanation I have ever heard! I like stud, which is why I wanted to try Razz. But I was SO confused the first couple times I played that I knew I needed help. Kinda like the first time I found myself at an Omaha table (by accident...lol) with a straight flush and busted out because 3 of them were in my hand...lol

I have never played razz before but pokerprincess really explained it well. I think I could figure out it now. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play. I like anything where the low hand actually wins

Agreed! I'd never even heard of it before and after that explanation I think I coud sit down and at least have some clue what was happening. So I guess the only basic question left is where online can you find a RAZZ game to play?
