I noticed that all Prima sites have an option whereby you can select whatever seat you wish to play in. Do you feel there is an advantage to this and if so what? Can you plan strategy by sitting in a particular seat?

That's an interesting concept, PokerPrincess. I had not given much thought to seat selection and how it might affect play. Are you only referring to online or might it also apply to brick and mortar casinos too?

Well, I have seen the seats at Prima and a couple of other poker sites and if I am playing multiple games I do select a certain seat so that I know exactly where to look for my cards when that window pops up.
Also, when I go to B&M I like to sit in either seat 2, 4 or 9. For some reason those seats seem to bring me luck. If I can't get in those seats I will take what is available until someone leaves and then I will move to the empty seat.

I like that idea. It was always an option at sit-n-go's and when you have 4 or more going you don't want to be in the same seat at all of them. It's easier when you have a different seat for each to keep track and remember who's doing what. I like to multi-table to avoid boredom, but sometimes you have good hands on all of them and you have to be able to tell what's what at a glance. So I remember by what seat I'm in who's likely to do what at each table.

Online I really don't much care what seat I am in but live it makes a BIG difference. I like to be in the middle of the table across from the dealer when playing live because I don't see as well as I used to. When I am stuck behind the dealer I miss things and it can be costly. From the middle I can see all the players and watch for their tells, not to mention it gets embarrasing when I don't know it's my turn because I can't see the player on the other side of the dealer.

Well, I have noticed that they have seating preferences and have tried it a couple of times but you need to know which seat you are "really" sitting in when they change your table I think because otherwise you are not really sure from which side of the table you are playing and that can make a difference.
At least that's my feelings about it. |

If you know the players you are playing with - then it can make a big difference where you sit if you have a choice.
You want the loose and aggressive players to your right, so that most of the time they will act before you and you can see what they do before you make your play, rather than getting raised and raised and raised after you have acted. Then you want the tighter players to your left so you can steal blinds and make more plays against these tighter opponents. Of course you can only do this is you know the players at the table otherwise there is not really alot you can do with seating strategy.
